Truffaut's most underrated film, in which he ventures into black farce, based on an American thriller (by Henry Farrell). As if in a comic version of La Mariée était en noir, Lafont stars as Camille Bliss, an imprisoned criminal accused of murdering a string of men and recounting her life and misadventures to a timid young sociologist (Dussollier). In a departure from Truffaut's refined or cool heroines, Lafont radiates raw energy and vigorous sexuality.
