Fête de la Musique - Exhibition Road Music Day: Change in Acts
20/06/2010
ALL EVENTS FREE!
After the success of last year, Exhibition Road Music Day, London's home of Fête de la Musique, is back once again for the annual one-day free live music festival. This year taking place on Sunday 20th June, the event is organised by leading cultural organisations around South Kensington and will showcase some of the best new music from France, the UK, and around the world.
Revolver, Gable, Ballake Sissoko & Vincent Segal
Headlining in the Cinema
Due to unforseen health problems Cocoon are cancelling all dates for the next month. Superb group Revolver have bravely stepped into the breach and will be taking their place as headliners this Sunday. Revolver are a smash-hit group in France with 'Get Around Town' currently dominating the radio waves. They performed in Brighton in May, and the UK crowd were blown away with their musicality and enthusiasm. They are sure to put on yet another spectacular show this Sunday!
Revolver - 8.30pm
Revolver are three early twenty-something Parisians who currently find themselves all over the French airwaves with their knock-out summer song 'Get Around Town'. They're Frenchmen with an abiding love and understanding of some of classical music’s greatest ever Englishmen. They are classically trained musicians who, like Radiohead, know how to turn rock inside out. With their debut record, Music For A While, produced by Julien Delfaud (Phoenix), they’ve created a beguiling, beautiful, hypnotic slice of chamber-pop.
GABLE - 7.15pm
GaBlé is a three-piece group hailing from Normandy, France and write scruffy, off-the-wall pop songs with echoes of The Vaselines, Beat Happening and Lou Barlow’s solo endeavours. GaBlé’s work is in constant dialogue with the DIY sensibility and aesthetic.
This quite exceptional duo is made up of Ballake Sissoko, the Malian who has established himself as one of the best kora players of his generation, and Vincent Segal, the renowned French cellist perhaps best known for his work with Bumcello and M. The two instruments' tonalities compliment each other in natural and unexpected ways.
Music on the Terrace
On the sunny terrace of the Institut's Language Centre, Scottish indie label Fence Records will host an afternoon of acoustic sets by some of their most exciting new bands: My Ant, Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains and Rozi Plain.
3pm to 6pm – Language Centre Terrace

The 1 hour workshops are all accessible to beginners and at the end of each workshop, participants and teachers will have the opportunity to give final a performance together.
