Day 16 : Supreme achievement for France
Day 16 : Supreme achievement for France
The Olympic games end brillantly for France as theFrench handball team retained its title after a tremendous performance in the final against Sweden.
Best of the day : French handball team
France beats Sweden 22-21 in the final of the Olympic competition and retains its title and solidify their spot at the top of the handball world. France won its sixth major international title in four years. After winning the 2006 European Championship, head coach Claude Onesta guided France to the 2008 Olympic gold medal, 2009 and 2011 world titles, 2010 European crown and now the triumph at the 2012 Olympic. Playing in front of many French fans who came to London, France led for nearly the entire final and wing wizard Luc Abalo scored the winning goal one minute before the end of the game.
Flop of the day : Julien Absalon
2004 and 2008 Olympic champion Julien Absalon, who was one of the pre-race favourites in London, pulled out of the Olympic men's mountain bike race on Sunday, after a flat tyre in the first lap ruined his chances of clinching a third title in a row. He finally withdrew from the race on the second lap without matching up with Czech Jaroslav Kulhavy who took the gold.
Le Nombre : 34
The London Games are now closed and French athletes are going back home with a satisfying 34 medals, including 11 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze. Les Bleus are seventh in the medal table, which his much better than the 10th place in Beijing. But four years ago, France clinched 41 medals, but only 7 titles.
BRAVO LES BLEUS!
