Benzema, Gourcuff scores as France beats Luxembourg (2-0)

France is on a winning streak with its third victory of the Euro 2012 qualifying

Laurent Blanc's vision is begining to pay off: Last night, France was back on the winning streak as it won for the third time running against Luxembourg (2-0) at Metz thanks to Karim Benzema (22nd) and Yoann Gourcuff (76th), who scored a goal in each half. 

Even if the Grand Duchy, as one of the weakest European football teams, is not renowned for being an unbeatable opponent, by no means must we turn our noses up at this victory. Admittedly, France's style of play was not as exciting and efficient as the one witnessed during the glorious victories of the late 90s,  but we must bear in mind that patience is required when rebuilding a team: each victory is a luxury  and should be celebrated as such during these Group D Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Due credit, afterall, is deserved if one looks at the figures: the French defence has not conceeded a single goal for three matches, and the team is now top of Group D with 9 points.

In a wholly miraculous turn of events, Les Bleus have turned their backs on the defeatist and morose frame of mind which was theirs under Domenech's (ex-coach of the French team) leadership: goodwill and optimism now reign.

Upcoming matches against England and Brazil will give us a more accurate insight into Laurent Blanc's gang's real potential. On November 17, 2010, Les Bleus are to be matched against Capello's crew, which poorly drew with Montenegro yesterday (0-0).

Funnily enough, the pressure, which was on the French team after their defeat against Belarus on matchday 1, is now felt by England. Unlike Laurent Blanc, who can take it easy for the time being, and enjoy a little serenity, it's Capello's turn to face the media savaging once again. Just to show, you're never flavour of the month for long...
