The Cannes Films Festival 2007
2009 Cannes Film Festival
The 60th Cannes Film Festival

This year, the Cannes Film Festival was celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. 2007 saw the big return of Hollywood and the festival was inviting all to rediscover Tarantino and Fincher thanks to Thierry Frémaux, the selector.
This birthday was one of the most glamorous ceremonies ever seen in Cannes. The Festival has gradually become the biggest media event other than the Olympic Games. This year, it is thought that over 120,000 people was attending for a turnover exceeding 120 000 000 €...

In celebration of this event, thirty five directors (amongst which Olivier Assayas, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Gus Van Sant, Lars Von Trier and Claude Lelouch) joined forces to create a series of short, three minute films regrouped under the title “to each one his own cinema”, which will illustrate the movie theatre.
The Festival has also beaten its own record of the longest film shown. The title had previously been held by Parsifal (4h40) and Nos meilleures années, has now be given to The War: a documentary on the Second World War which will last 14hrs.

In doing so, the Director and producer wanted to offer the inhabitants of the French suburbs something which is usually inaccessible to them.
The project revolved around free, open-air showings on a giant inflatable screen.
Sixty Years of Masterpieces:
For sixty years now, the Cannes Film Festival has been an innovator in revealing directors, actors and cinematographies. From La Bataille du rail to Days of Glory, and from Michèle Morgan to Penelope Cruz, the film industry’s history has been written on the red carpet.
Since 1946, very great international film star has passed through Cannes: Marlon Brando, Claude lelouch, Steven Spielberg, Grace Kelly, Alain Resnais, Jean Cocteau, Brigitte Bardot, Milos Forman, Quentin Tarantino…
